So my display keeps shutting off randomly when I game. There is a sound notification and then the display shuts off randomly. I can hear the sound from the game in the background and computer still running but it says "no DVI signal" also notice low performance and laggy computer. It takes long to load programs and for computer to Boot.

I did notice several bad sectors on the HDD but the utility couldn't fix them.

Also in even viewer it says something about some weird driver crashing. I assume its related to Nvidia due to the file extension code of the error.

I have my computer apart right now probably going to RMA HDD because warranty will expire in 7 months. But what do you guys think could be causing the issue?

Overheating will cause an issue like that (either cpu or gpu). Could be a video driver error. But my suggestion would be to get the replacement hard drive and everything re-installed first. Then see if the blank screen issue returns. Make sure you grab the later video card drivers with the re-install.

Like Ketchup said, it could be the GPU overheating, and that is what I believe is most likely the issue. Make sure the GPU fan is spinning properly and clean the GPU heatsink with compressed air. You should monitor your temps with a program that will also record the temps (else you won't be able to view them just before it crashed). GPU-Z is one such program that offers that functionality (Sensors tab > Log to file). If the GPU temps are fine I would then suspect the power supply.

it's likelier to be an overheating issue but you can try and pinpoint the exact area before settling for this conclusion. If you've tried everything AnonymouseUser said, you can try out another display device. that said, i feel it's less likely because of your drive's condition, if that were the case, you might not have been able to run the game at all.

Well I tried several times but error still continued to happen. Today I am going to RMA my parts. Going to RMA GPU back to MSI (Signature) and going to RMA HDD back to WDD since it only has about 7 months left of warranty on it. Printing RMA form right now and going to the post office in a bit to drop them off.

Will report back after I receive more information or they return the items back.

Man, I think you have RMA'd just about every component in that build, outside of what, the RAM and PSU?

You've had some really bad luck with this build.

So the GPU & HDD arrive to their according destination Thursday and Friday. HDD-WD and GPU-MSI how long will the turn around time be?

Guys pretty sure no one follows this thread anymore but something strange happened. The GTX 970 arrived at MSI this past Thursday. Tonight I just got email notification that they shipped it back. Spoke to rep on the phone just now and he said they sent a Refurbished replacement but he couldn't tell me what was the problem with the one I sent.

Isn't odd that my RMA received a 2 day turn around? Seems really strange to me, almost unheard of.

Sure I am not really complaining but I hope they don't send a malfunctioning unit back. That would suck.

Insufficient power can also cause that behavior. Are you sure your power supply is good?

How long did you trip the connection for the reset? Might not have been long enough.

It actually has a CMOS reset button built into the MoBo. Did that 2 times same issue. Removed CMOS battery same issue.

EDIT: only hope I have is to wait for my GPU and connect that through DVI port like I always did. If that doesn't work then I guess I'll have to RMA MoBo again.

The HDMI will not work and GPU gets here monday. Sucks but I have no other choices.

Would it be okay to make a New thread with this issue? Maybe more people will comment.

Several questions here.

1) Signature says :
GPU
-EVGA GTX 970

But you say:

Going to RMA GPU back to MSI (Signature).

2) You said originally that the display says
"no DVI signal"

Now you say:
my Monitor keeps saying No HDMI Signal.

I am on mobile. If signature says EVGA its wrong and I will change it later. Its MSI GTX 970.

I don't think I said no DVI signal. if I did I am sorry about that its harder on Mobile. I have no HDMI signal.

I have no GPU or HDD but HDD arrives today from RMA so I wanted to enable on board graphics to install Windows on it and have some programs ready when GPU arrives on monday but I get no display image so I can't even see Start up screen or get to BIOS no display.

It says No HDMI and I am lost.

Friend says HDMI is probably broken on MoBo only choice I got is to try with GPU dual link DVI when I get GPU monday.

Ok kimosabe. According to ASUS that display came with a Dual-link DVI cable. Use it. If that no work, perhaps the monitor has ceased operations. I'm no expert here but I suspect that even if you originally disengaged the on board video, working monitors on systems without a graphics card will still display POST and BIOS info. (Maybe not but keep that in mind if your RMA efforts have no good result) .

Cannot use DVI without GPU. My MoBo at least doesn't have DVI. So I'll have to wait for my GPU to arrive and hope it works with that.

I am pretty sure PC is Posting fine. Just have no Display Signal.
