Display set to wrong resolution

I'm working on a Toshiba Satellite C655-S5547 laptop. It has a 15.6" screen with a 1366x768 resolution. I was noticing that things did not look normal, either in the browser or in Windows. Things looked stretched. I went to check out the display settings and found that it was set for 1024x768 with no option to set it at a higher resolution. The laptop has a i3-2350M processor and is using the CPU's onboard graphics. Is that the reason for the incorrect resolution? Is the onboard graphics not able to drive a 1366x768 resolution? Is there another driver out there that can allow me to change the settings? I've checked advanced settings and there is nothing above 1024x768. TIA

I wonder why this 2-3 year old laptop didn't have a newer driver installed out of the box. Was this something that the laptop owners supposed to do when they first brought it home? I don't own a laptop so I just assumed that it would be fully up to date when they bought it. By up to date I mean 2012, not 2006.

Had to be something the owner did. The age you give it put it right around the time 8 was hitting the market, a driver from 2006 would be designed for Vista compatibility.

Yup. Laptop had Win7 on it. Owner came to pick up her computer tonight. One of the most computer illiterate people I have ever met. Barely turns the thing on except to do her timesheet for work. I attempted to explain to her how to complete her updates (4 out of 57 hadn't finished) and how to run basic anti-adware/malware software. I finally gave up when I realized she just isn't going to get it.

She had contracted some adware that turned on some proxy server. It was hell getting it off. Told her not to download/install any more programs to help clean up her PC again (2nd time I had done work for her). I asked her if the laptop came with a CD and if she had updated the drivers. I might as well been talking to a wall. Nice lady otherwise. LOL
