Display Problem: Need Help

I got a problem with my computer's display. I own a Dell dimension 4100 with Windows Me and an NVIDIA GeForce MX/MX400 card. I was trying to get to my CMOS settings and pressed a couple of the F keys at random while my computer was loading. Can't remember which one though. Once it loaded up, the resolution was 640 x 480 with 16 colors. I tried to change it from the display properties. The color tab only goes up to "High Color (16 bit)" and the max resolution that is availabe is "1024 x 768". The highest resolution and color possible aren't even displayed. The problem is that when I try to change the resolution and color to anything other that 640 x 480 & 16 colors, it won't let me. It says that the computer must be shut down before the changes take effect. Once I restart the computer, the resolution and color don't change. I downloaded and installed the most recent Detonator driver for my card. I did this twice and the problem doesn't go away. I ran Norton Utilities and no problems were detected. I also checked to see if the right monitor was selected in the Advanced setting of the display properties and it was. Any ideas on what my problem might be?

hey , welcome . is this winXP ?
I also checked to see if the right monitor was selected in the Advanced setting of the display properties and it was.
are you using 2 moniters or are you talking about "twin view" showing that you can have 2 moniters ? try deleting the moniter from the device manager and reboot.

Thanks for the welcome. No, I'm only using one monitor. I did a search on the forum before I posted and this guy had a similar problem. He fixed it by selecting the proper monitor in the device manager. After messing with my computer for a whole day I simply decided to pull the graphic card and test it on a different system. Sure enough, my card got messed up. I'm currently using my old computer's card and It'll have to do until I get a new one. Thanks for the help anyway.
