The ATI radeon 9800 pro 256mb 256bit will not correctly work in my board

i am using
Abit kg7raid board
256mb ram
winxp pro

Boards firmware is up to date and to the best of my knowledge the chipset is as well. But when i put this card into the agp slot and boot up it gives me all kinds of funny looking lines on the screen. However when i put this card in another pc it seem to boot up fine with no problems. Maybe a bios setting i am not configured correctly? Please Help

Try booting in safe mode and selecting a lower resolution, perhaps you are trying to boot in a mode that was supported by your previous video card but not your 9800.

As far as your BIOS settings for video are concerned, there are only a few options that could screw things up... make sure the AGP mode is set to 8x, voltage should be 1.5v, AGP frequency auto.

Hope this helps

edit: oh and also make sure you have the latest bios flash for your motherboard... i doubt this is the problem but you never know

No Good... would the voltage be the same as the power controller voltage it is set at 1.75 other than that i am unsure of what to do? i have taken a pic of the screen with digital camera anyway i can upload that into forum? Computer is posting normally. Everything is ok except for the output.

Aye, i liked the penguin better.

this card also requires its own molex for power

can you redescribe these "funny lines"? what exactly do you see when you boot? does the problem persist if you boot in safe mode?

you can email me a pic if you wish, or upload to your webspace or hosting and post the link.
- crtl+alt+print screen
- open image editing program (paint shop pro, etc. i use i_view32) and paste clipboard contents
- save as jpg & upload it...

Hey. Nope. If you click on my avatar, it brings you to my user profile.... the email address is ok but you have to remove "REMOVE". How'd you make out anyway? Still problems?

Have you run DriverCleaner or another proggie designed to get rid of old video driver fragments left around after selecting uninstall?

This is particularly relevant if you had an nVidia vid card in there b4 the 9800p.

driver cleaner didnt work i am out of ideas is there a such thing as incompatible agp card for a board that has a agp slot?

thx meltdown i got this post on all kinds of different forums everywhere and still no one can help me. I am just going to assume that its incompatible with this board

no way dude! don't give up the battle. i thought as long as you had AGP 4x you would be ok in that department. could be wrong though. If you do just end up saying 'screw it', be consoled in the fact that its kinda funky that you would use it at anything less than AGP 8x.

Here a few suggestions off the top of my head:

1) I would guess that you have uninstalled and reinstalled the vid card drivers serveral times to make sure you got a good install. If not, try again and follow the directions/tips on the ATI site carefully

2) Unplugg the PSU and clean out the AGP slot.

3) With the PSU unplugged, try reseating the card. They can be difficult to get seated all the way.

A few questions:

Do you have another AGP card you can try with your system?

What are the circumstances surrounding the installation of the new card. For Example, was this a good-working PC and you added the card and then updated vid card drivers and chipset drivers, or did you reinstall windows etc.

What vid card and chipset drivers have you installed?

Did you flash to newer BIOS as previously mentioned?

Fern

hmm. hope ya didn't give up FactionGuru... i'd love to have a 9800 pro instead of my card, even though mine is great for what i need. get it workin! 🙂
