Display not being detected in new build

I'm having a very frustrating and confusing problem. I just put together a new machine (specs outlined below) and the video card seems to refuse to detect the display for some reason. At first, I thought it might be a faulty video card, so I RMA'd and got a replacement because I exhausted my options. Unfortunately, the replacement card is doing the exact same thing! Things I've tried and checked:

• Reseating video card in PCI-E primary slot
• Tried other PCI-E slots
• Swapped 6-pin power cables
• Changed the DVI-D cable to the either ports on the card
• Swapped out card with older card, which detected the display just fine

The only other thing I could think is that the monitor or its cable is somehow incompatible but doesn't seem very likely. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated... Thanks in advance.

Specs:
Asus Crosshair IV Formula motherboard
XFX Radeon HD 6870
Abs 1050W PSU
Viewsonic VX2025WM LCD (DVI-D)

Are you seeing an Asus splash screen? If not try booting with one stick of RAM in at a time.

Nvm, looks like it works with another GPU.

Try the video card on another motherboard.
Try a different monitor.

I'll give that a try. The conclusion here would be that the problem lies either with the motherboard or the monitor, correct?

Looks like that LCD has an issue with nvidia cards

The card that works is actually an nVidia card, the new one is ATI. Though, it may be a clue to some broken functionality that's causing it to not detect the new card... I'll look into it a bit more.

If it works with another monitor then there must be some incompatibility between the card and the monitor. DVI cable maybe?

I just tried using this card in another motherboard, didn't work. Then I tried it in a whole different computer with a whole different monitor, didn't work. Switched from DVI to straight HDMI / no adaptors, didn't work.

Could it really be possible that I got 2 defective video cards in a row? o_o

Yes it is possible. I have noticed that when you RMA something in most cases you receive a refurbished one. It sucks i know.
