Question Display lag with 20' DP cables?

RE: HTPC in sig below

My wife wants a computer in the living room, I had the bright idea to just tap into the HTPC already there. She wants dual monitors... so I would be running 2x 20' display port cables to the monitors. I've never run a video cable that long, will there be any lag? Anything else I should be looking for before I commit?

Nothing noticeable, testing input lag with HDMI cables and 1 meter, 1.5, 3, 5, 10, and 15 meter cables, there was no difference among 3 different displays tested using any of the 6 different lengths.

However, display port standard has a maximum of 3 to 5 meter lengths. A max of around 16.5 feet. Anything beyond that requires an active cable which will cost you a fair bit more than a standard cable, probably around $30-40.

The "standard" DP 1.4 spec displayport cable is just 28 gauge copper wire.

If you wanna go longer, you just need thicker cables. 5+ to 8 meters you should have at least 26 awg, and 9-12 meters you should have 24 awg.

I'm currently running a passive 10 meter (33 foot) 24 awg displayport cable which works perfectly fine even with 165hz 1440p gsync.

I got two of the cables I referenced above, they don't specifically state the AWG on the case, but they are working well enough. They are quite burly... for a display cable, anyway.
