display issue with Dell 2001FP? need advice

I bought a 2001FP LCD from Dell recently and am generally pleased with it. However, I noticed some issues in the display and never having had an LCD display before, I'm not sure if it's typical behavior or an issue with the display I received. When viewing a very dark area on the screen, in a few spots on the screen the image appears brighter than the surrounding areas. These aren't well defined areas, like a certain chunk of pixels, but more like streaks on the screen where the display seems to be brighter. It's kind of like the black is being washed-out in these areas. This isn't really noticeable until looking at something very dark or black, like the black bars around a DVD, since the black being displayed isn't a uniform brightness.

I currently have the monitor hooked up via DVI, however I tried VGA and the "streaks" are still there. I know it's not my video card or computer because I still have my old CRT and that looks fine. I thought that maybe this is just typical LCD behavior, similar to how pushing on a laptop screen distorts the image. However it's rather distracting to me when watching movies and such. I figured I'd get some oppinions before calling Dell and spending 4 hours on the phone with tech support. There seems to be plenty of people with this LCD in this forum, anyone have similar issues?

I've heard of some LCDs leaking light around the edges, causing the symptoms you describe. If the panel doesn't fit tightly against the casing (or whatever) then the backlight gets through and can ruin the picture. It's a manufacturing defect, so Dell should replace it.
