Display goes to small colored dots

Shortly after I first boot and then after computer has been on for several hours the screen will go to a display of colored dots about 1/16 to 1/8 inch in diameter filling the screen. If I let the computer sit it will eventually reboot. Any Ideas. XP2600 mobile @2.4GHz, Abit NF7, 1gig Corsair valu ram, Gainward 4200Golden Sample slightly overclocked. All temps are normal and the video card processor isn't hot to the touch(back side of board). All boards and connectors have been reseated.
Thanks
Bill

Sounds like a classic video card overheating problem -- are you sure the video card fan is spinning OK? Didi you try clocking the card at stock or even underclocking it?

Dave;
Thanks for the reply. I doubt it's an overheating video card because it will happen within a couple of minutes of the first startup and then again agter 4 or 5 hours. The back of the video card in the processor socket area is not hot. I have a good aftermarket cooler on the card and it's fan is running. Dust is not a problem because I recently blew all the dust out of the case with an air compressor.

Still, Though, Have you tried underclocking it for a bit? Maybe back down your processor O/C? How long has this card been o/c'ed in the first place? Could just be going tits-up. That's ok though, You needed an excuse to get a new 6800 anyway right?..😉
