Display driver stops responding xfx 6790

I have this problem that won't go away...i can't even play bejewelled or roller-coaster tycoon 3 i get a black screen then it goes back to normal for a second then i get a pop up saying the display driver has stopped or something and has recovered...the card is a xfx radeon hd 6790...i have no clue how to fix this

The motherboard is an asus sabertooth p67
Video card is xfx radeon hd 6790
4 gb of ddr3 ram 1333
500 watt psu
intel core i5 2500k

Wonder if the 6790 has some malfunctioning parts?

I have had a nightmare with windows media player and radeon drivers.

Got some dvds i ripped into avi files and last night i was watching Thor 3 times media player crashed 2 times my system hardlocked with a black screen forcing a hard shut off.

Been using media player for years and this is the first time i have had such trouble sometimes i got issues with BF3 as well crashing.

Lucky me to have radeon driver issues everytime i pop a new radeon card in i have some sort of new issue .

Edit: some reviews of newegg has plenty of people having the same exact issues as me...bad batch it appears.

Awww man 15 years later and we still have ATI driver issues on the desktop. Man honestly,,, ATI AMD is a joke for this reason, and why I will always be nVidia ,, even if a faster ATI comes out,,, My old x800 xt pe agp ,, gave me soo many problems ,,, like one time it would cut the frames to 20fps unplayable, then I uninstall and install a diff version and its fast, then a new version comes out and its slow again. CCC nightmares not being able to install the darn ATI drivers ,, getting error messages during install and after install,, D3D OGL dont work,, wtf,, man I went thru hell for a freakin 600 dollar video card at the time in 2005 .... so I dont care call me a fool, from now on its my mission to disgard users away from ATI and come to nVidia when they describe a problem. Youll never get problems with nVidia , and not allowing you to install drivers ? thats bunk ,, ati,,, blowz more then the recent winds here in Glendale, CA ,, Im like 30 minutes without traffic away from the big newegg store / warehouse in LA... so back in the day before newegg became bunk and sold you used stuff and replacements and what not,, never trust newegg,, but in 2001 they were good company.

Also there is no such thing as a malfunctioning part,,, its simply , driver issues, and when at one time you have everything working,, dont touch drivers again,, even if newer WHQL come out,, cuz once again,, nexdt thing you know ATI is 20fps in BF3 or you get Desktop bugs in driver like my dads ATI ALL IN WONDER card. horrible,,,, ATI AMD ,,heck with you,,,,,,, nvidia and Intel for life!!!! that darn Athlon XP 2500+ @ 2.5Ghz coupled with a x800 ... disaster.. the ATI ALL IN WONDER glitches desktop glitches,, nasty ,, steer me away from this gl,

Check out the newegg reviews for the xfx 6790 single fan card....it has a super low rating with people having the same exact issues as me...i checked all the other cards like the 6770,6850,6870 the 6790 is the only card that has more 1 egg reviews then even 5 egg reviews...the card is poorly supported...

I used a 6750 prior to this on the same drivers...there wasn't media player crashing there...or system lock ups LOL.

Thoughts?

Maybe you need a bigger PSU.

OR. Did you overclock? too high overclock and it will shut the drivers down for some seconds
