Display driver stopped responding and has recovered

My cousins Acer computer was fine but now gives this error. He uses classic view but I dont think that is the problem.

I did research and the error message is TDR error. I read about TDR but his games work fine MASS 2 , MW2 , In windows he gets video error and his rendering is slow. I told him its the PSU , its a Acer soo parts are from A-DATA very weak PSU 430w I think. I told him its the PSU what do you all think. Weve tried everything soo far. Everything software wise.. drivers and etc. Doesnt seem to be a driver problem. Its on the hardware layer I say but he refuses to spend 100 dollars on a PSU he says thats not it. Also before his games used to slow down to 10fps unplayable then suddenly all the FPS comes back and its normal. He hasnt complained about the slow slow FPS lately so I guess that is fine. Still think its the PSU or could it be the graphics card, its a 9800GT. Thank you all

cpu or gpu overheating?
It plays games fine now but it used to slow down in games. Does it now crash in desktop mode. I'm tryng to follow you.
What operationg system windows 7?

Thanks plenty ubber forum member happy medium. What crashes are videos ,, utube viewing videos,, thats the only problem it gives on desktop Hes using W7 and its a Frys Acer box. He finished the whole game of MASS 2 and MW2 and couple other games. No problems in games, however videos will cause that error and video or video rendering is slow and crashes. This happens on a clean boot, then things work ok utube works ok or videos in media player ,, but prob might pop up again that message you saw in the screenie.. hmmm Thanks for the response I know well get this fixed. Also it cant be overheating because games work fine and never crash. Desktop dosent crash, just the error popup and video not showing. Thanks
