Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

The 'cause' is a detected error in windows. It is called Timeout detection and recovery (TDR). This feature was added in vista and exists in seven.

It is triggered when the hardware (graphics) fails for whatever reason. This has been known to be from driver issues in the past but for the most part these days it signifies a hardware issue. Nvidia has the same error with nvlk something or other. The name is misleading as this error is always the report from TDR.

Check temperatures first of all. Check the PSU. If it was fine before check if you installed new hardware as well.

amdkmdap?

I remember getting that error with my 5750 card 7 months back.

I installed new drivers and it went away with the 10.3 driver.

these are my system specs no im not overclocking the gpu

one thing that i have been strugling with is i am not 100% sure i have a big enopugh powersuply , i mean i added everything up and mine should be big enough its a 500w but if my power suply was the problem would i be have other major problems? cause this is the only problem ive had with the build so far

another thing i thought was weird is i couldnt actualy find the driver what folder is it located in i checked all the sys and driver folders couldnt find it

one thing i thought was weird is i was able to run 3dmark06 and heaven benchmark without getting the error , i get the error when im in actual games like wow and mw2

3DMark and Heaven don't really stress the card like actual gaming. I've had plenty of instances where these benchmarks run fine, but then actual gameplay causes either graphic anomalies or a crash.

I've encountered the "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered" error during overclocking.

i posted a big one with my system specs said it had to wait for a mod or something so when that comes up people can see that and lmk if they see any problems there.

when I experience ATI driver stops & recovers with my 4870 512, the most common reason was either due to overheating or overclocking.

there are instances where it seems the card or drivers just doesn't seem to like a game. one of those instances would be Borderlands for me and I'd get driver stop / recovery with stock clocks and a custom fan profile more aggressive than the stock profile.

for whatever reason the post i put in with my specs in it does not seem to be coming up

could this be caused by my power supply being to small? i mean i would not think so because i have not had any other issues and i would think something more major would happen.

Because of your relative "newness" to the forums our spam-filters flagged your system-spec post as potential spam. It sits in a queue awaiting active review by a mod before the post is approved for submission to the forum.

Just FYI.

I have been getting that error when watching Flash videos in IE lately. It started after I got an Adobe update reminder and installed the update... so I don't know if I should be annoyed with AMD or with Adobe. Videos play fine in Opera, though, maybe that doesn't use GPU acceleration?

well i have stoped the problem to an extent , it turned out by simply unchecking a box in catalyst it overclocked itself so i fixed that and it doesnt seem to be happening nearly as much but it has happaned a couple times since ive done this

if the cores and the overclocking was the issue though wouldnt i see more problems then just one error when i play games?

i have had the display driver stopped responding error when i had my cpu clocked a little too high with not enough voltage.I think you need to go back to stock and get the system stable first, and go from there. What programs are you using to test stability?

I know for sure this issue can be from drivers but I remain skeptical that software is a more common bug than hardware. This is after all a hardware failsafe system... ms isn't perfect but id at least say they can program something that works more oftan than it totally fails.

This error, while poorly named, is not part of the ati drivers. It is a recovery system integrated into Windows (not sure how much is part of the drivers and merely reported to TDR) to reset the gpu if ever it crashes. The driver can certainly freeze like other software from time to time but if it keeps up the first things to check are overclocking, heat, and power (99% of the time too little power means things dont turn on or function at all but there is a sweat zone where it can simply mean the card cant clock up).

I've been getting this even when running non-Aero since the last ATI driver update. It always recovers properly though. Everything is running stock, and temperatures are fine. Slightly higher than possible because of my sound card being 3mm away from the video card cooler.

i changed my video card to an old nvidia one i had lying around and it seemed to fix the problem, my question is do you think the problem was the card itself or the ati drivers?

going to buy a new card later this week and wondering cus if its the drivers i obviously wont get another ati card so.. if anyone has any ideas let me know

thanks

I was having similar issues. I down-clocked my card by 50MHz and all was fine. Apparantly my card was fine at 950MHz for gaming, but video acceleration was not stable. Maybe your GPU is faulty and not stable at it's rated speed?
