Display/Audio suggestions needed

Looking to spend sub-$1,000 on the display and sub-$600 on audio. This system will be used for HD gaming/movies, also as a monitor if I feel I want to play around with that idea. The projector was my first idea and seems like it would be awesome, but I am unsure if I want to replace lamps every 2000-3000 hours or if the picture quality is as high as a comparable priced LCD. Please add in any item that would be recommended, a little higher price is not a huge concern but I have that budget in mind.

Benq w500


Audio - With their little bundle discount it drops the price into range.
AVR 146

w/ HKTS 5.1

If any of these items should be avoided let me know, if there is something I am overlooking let me know.

PS: I know I would need a screen for the w500

This would be an incredible projector for $1195 AR (1080p 3LCD)

There are some great projectors in the sub $1k range as well including some popular 720p DLP models. I don't know anything about the Benq w500, but there are a lot of excellent projectors in your pricerange to consider.

Some places you buy from offer bulb replacement plans as well that would take some of the edge off the bulb problem.

You should go out and see some well set up HT projectors in person before deciding if it's something you want to do. The biggest drawback is that your room has to be very dark for it to look good. Even a lowly lit room is going to really wash out your image.

If you decide you do like front projection and it would work for you, you could also think about doing your own screen vs. buying one. I made my own including a masking system that's working out quite well.
