Disneyworld! Whats it like? Thinking about vacation for the family!

I'm thinking about taking my family to disneyworld. Does anyone have any advice, possibly to get discounts, hmmmm...any service they recommend or website i can use?

Oh yeah, Ive noticed that the hotels that are far away from the park are fairly inexpensive. Whats the public transportation like over there?

Thanks all!

I loved it there. As for discounts, I remember there being a few websites that said how to get the best discounts. Perhaps the cheapest way, albeit not entirely honest is to meet up w/ some other family down there and get a bunch of 5 day park hopper passes and then one family uses them one day, the other family the other day.

As for hotels, I stayed at a time-share condo thing when I went last w/ my parents. It was sweet, have to cook your own food, but way cheaper than eating out all the time.

Find some friend that works there and you can get in for free. Also take advice from Kenazo

As for hotels, some of them are not that far from the parks. Food is expensive so eat before going in, andbring snacks and bottled water. Try to visit Downtown Orlando, good clubs and happy hours (if you are legal age)

Its expensive, no doubt about it. My dad's quote was "We can go t Italy cheaper than Disney World". But beside the point my recomendation would be to make a choice. If you are going to stay on site stay at one of the nice hotels right on the park like the board walk I think of the polynesian. The first time we stayed on site but it was not really on site. It was more espensive and we may have well been off site for cheaper. The second time we stayed at the polynesian and it was right on the monorail made getting into the park easier and faster it was a lot more fun although it cost more.

A lot of the hotels in the area not close by provide some sort of transportation. When I went years ago we stayed at a decent hotel, nothing like a Hilton or anything, but it was nice because they gave transportation to there, and if you came back at a certain time you could take their bus back. Call up the hotels and ask around

All I remember is if your standing in line to get in and someone says "hey don't move there is a bee on your neck" don't slap your neck. You will be stung by a bee.

That and you can fit a few Disney Lands in Disney World's parking lot.

I was 8 when my grandparents let me come along to florida disneyworld. It was the trip of my life! I had a great time there. I bet its a bit expensive but i think your family will enjoy it, your wallent wont.

Get ready for lines though.

One trick is to bring a handicapped friend (someone who needs oxygen or whatever), you move to the front of every line.

stay away from epcot. wasteeeeeeeeeee

I liked Epcot. Not a big rides thing, but very interesting.

Epcot has a lot of educational-type fun with a couple of decent rides, and really good food. Overall, it's my favorite WDW park.

I would also advise not going before October. You'll have less crowds and much better weather.

i havent been there in a little while, but i do remember some tips...
also, there is a really good book out about secrets and deals of WDW.

If you wanna save some money, stay at a hotel off property if none of the disney hotels are in your price range, although, check out all their hotels for any deals they may be running. even if you dont stay in their hotels, most hotels off property even offer shuttles every hour to the parks.

We went at the perfect time, October. Was nice and warm, but not too hot, AND there were hardly any lines.
Make sure to visit all the parks, I loved Epcot. lots of neat things to see, even if they didnt have lots of thrill rides, although, now that i think about it, the magic kingdom didnt either at that point. even the "thrill rides" there were nothing compared to the rides at Cedar Pointe we were used to.

Other than that, do your research, check out fatwallet and head to borders to browse the WDW books out!

If your kids are older than 6 years old I would definately check out Universual studios /Islands of adventure. That park BLOWS Disney away if you like rides. If you want to walk around and see some puppets sing its a small world then you can always go to Disney. Islands of adventure has rides based on marvel comics and they are great. They also have a Dr. Suess area for smaller kids, dinosaur rides/activities, live action rides, and some really cool 3D rides. You can get a pass for both parks they are right next to one another.

its awesome! make sure you get the fast pass first thing for the most popular rides. you are only allowed one fast pass at a time so dont get a fast pass on something where the line isnt too long.

and about tickets, we stayed at a time share resort like 10 miles away from the parks...and got discounted tickets from the main office

here are some pics to wet your appetite
pleasure island
magic kingdom
MGM

I personally wasn't impressed. It was too expensive, and it seemed like there was pro Disney propoganda everywhere.

 Have you even been to DisneyWorld? There are less thrill rides, but the sense of immerison is just amazing. Last time I went I was 24 (last summer) and it still boggles my mind how perfect the illusion is. Disney is more about experience than roller coasters, although the rides get more and more badass with each passing year. Check out Mission:Space if you don't believe me. A motion simulator hooked up to a giant centrifuge, and here is the difference between Disney and other theme parks: you sit in front of a console with a control stick and buttons and switches - and every last button and switch is operable. At 6-Flags you'd find those switches secured in place. They don't miss a single detail at Disney...it's simply awe-inspiring.

Islands Of Adventure is awesome, but at the end of the day it's really just a 6-Flags park taken to the next level. Spending 2 days there would be a stretch, especially considering that the "original" Universal Park is essentially a lame collection of motion simulators. If you have the time and especially if you are staying off of Disney property so you will have your own transportation, IOA is well worth checking out at least one or two days, but there is no way you could spend a week there without riding every ride 20 times.

When I went to WDW last summer, it was my 4th or 5th time there, yet after a week I still wished I had another 2-3 days.

As opposed to the lack of pro Six Flags/Universal/Paramount/WB/Marvel/DC/Anheuser-Busch propaganda at any other major theme park? 😕

We went in 02 and stayed at the Gaylord palm just a few miles away. And we also went in 94 and stayed at the WDW dolphin hotel. The doplhin was very nice as you could take a boat to the epcot and MGM/universal parks. But the gaylord was a very beautiful hotel. It will rain on you just about every day but only for a little while. And it will be muggy as all get out. When we went in 02 my kids were 3 and 1 1/2 years old and they had a ball.

There are a ton of little parks as well all over the place.

One bad thing is there is no Matterhorn.

Go to tourguidemike.com. It will cost you $21.95 but it is worth every penny. He tells you what the best attractions are, where to go and when to be there. Everything. We went to Disney last October and we had a great time. We also stayed at the non expensive part of the Disney resort, I believe it was called All-Star-Movies, it was around $80 a night. It was a nice clean room and we took their shuttles to the parks and didn't drive the whole time we were there.

I've been there many times and will go back when I have kids. I'm not sure why thrill rides wormed it's way into this conversation, but that's not what Disney is about.

Get a rental car and just drive in and park at a park. Then use their shuttles to go back and forth between the parks if you get a Hopper pass. Or just stay in one of their hotels since it's much easier and faster to get to where you want to go.

As for tickets, there's not many discounts I know of but you can get them at lots of places around Disney, some Disney Stores in malls sell them, etc. You can either get Hopper Passes or regular passes. Hoppers let you go to as many parks as you want each day. Regular ones you have to pick a park for the day and stay there.

If you like wildlife, Animal Kingdon is incredible. We were there a couple years ago and it just rocked. There's a whole safari you go on to see the lions, giraffes, etc as well as lots of other things to see as well as rides.

I don't know which one I went to, but I went to the one in Orlando, Flordia. when I was about 12. I personally thought it was not that great. The lines were WAY too long, and the rides were just so-so. The place is more geared torwards a younger crowd than 12 I would say. I wanted to go on some roller coasters, and the ones there (space mountain and this other one that went through the gold rush) both were very weak in comparison to ones at other theme parks.

I would also have to say that out of all the places I went to when I was in Florida, my favorite by FAR was Sea World. We went to Universal Studios, Disney Land/World (whichever is the one in FL), and Sea World. In order of my favorites, it went Sea World, Universal Studios, then Disney Land. But if you have younger kids, like around 8 or so, they will have a blast there!
