Would it be a bad idea to go to Disneyland in Anaheim on July 4th? Anyone know a place to get cheap tix?

Best way is to find someone in SoCal who can buy you tickets only available for local residents. Another way is to scour craigslist for people who buy multi-day passes and willing to resell the remaining days to you.

Not sure about the crowd, but probably crowded. Also, it's fucking hot out there in the middle of summer. Anaheim doesn't get the climate that San Diego enjoys.

I'd say skip it, head further south, and watch whatever fireworks there are in San Diego. I'm biased, though, I just spent the last week there. As far as weather goes, it's paradise.

The only thing I can add to this is when I went to Disney World a few years ago I was told by several Disney employees as well as my travel agent that July 4th is a day you want to avoid; in fact that entire week.

I wouldn't be surprised if the same held true for Disneyland.

Parking's terrible and with that crowd, it's like being with kids in a McDonald's playpen.
it's gotten worse over the years.

It doesn't get that hot at all. Not SD cool but Anaheim doesn't get super hot at all.

To OP, yes it will be extremely crowded on July 4th. Any holiday is extremely crowded at Dland. If you have a Costco membership, depending where you live, they sell tickets there. If you do go, you'll have to get there right when the park opens. On holidays during the summer, Disneyland stops letting people after around 12pm as it get full.

Disney World is usually a madhouse during that weekend, so I can imagine that the smaller Disneyland would be a madhouse x5.

My parents were at Disneyland on 9/11/2001. They flew down for their 30th wedding anniversary. Apparently there were like 20 other people (non-employees) in the whole park.

I'd imagine going on the 4th would be pretty miserable, but whatever.

The last time I was there in July, it was at least 90. My inlaws were up at Knotts just last week and it was in the low 80's. I suppose it'll be hit or miss, but the forecast out there actually does look good this week.

Anaheim doesn't get super hot, but I'm also used to my mid-atlantic 90's heat with 80's humidity, so it's actually very bearable by comparison. Something about heat and crowds that makes it awful, though.

July 4th is one of the busiest days of the year. Would not go there unless I was being paid to do it.

Wait till the week after labor day. One of the slowest weeks of the year.

Don't go. Went there July 4th week late '90s. Place was packed, long lines to the rides, restrooms, food court, souvenir area. Had to stay together as a family/group or else finding each other was next to impossible (cell phones were not as popular then). If we had to split, we had to agree and meet at a certain time and place. Of course that never happened as planned and had to wait for the late comers. Enjoyed it, but swore to myself if I ever come back and visit again was to make sure that it will be during the slow season.

Disney parks are packed in general during the summer, I can only imagine it would be 5x worse on July 4th weekend.

In my personal experience of going to Disneyland for every childhood summer I can remember and then living a stones throw from DL in college, it can get very, Very, VERY hot in July. I am sure the monthly average is not above the 80's, but I would bet that any day in July you pick to go to Disneyland, it will probably be 85 or warmer. YMMV.

ok how about July 3rd?

Summer is generally bad. Holidays and holiday weekends are worse.

July 3rd is probably no better than the 4th. In fact, now that I think about it, it may actually be worse.

You can see the fireworks for free outside in a lot of places around the park. Even on the highway. Hotel tops, parking structures etc. Starts at 9 something, don't think it was 9:00pm on the dot.
