Disney has long been known for not having a single original idea, but this one really takes the cake. Their new "original" movie, Atlantis, is nothing more than a ripoff of Nadia, a Japanese television series. Check it out here -- Thanks to NewGrounds :)

"Never heard of Nadia till it was mentioned in this NG. Long after we'd finished production, I might add." - Kirk Wise, the director of 'Atlantis: The Lost Empire'

I didn't realize they had animated nudity in that movie. Not good for kids then.

Sorry but Disney is not well known for having "original" ideas. In fact lots of them are ripoffs.

the picture is probably from the Japanese show, not the US show. I don't think Disney would have included that.

nah, disney has had original ideas... i mean, someone had to come up with pocohontas getting all hot and bothered by captain john smith when thats not at all what really happened (he was 30, she was 10) and she married the other guy in charge of jamestown.

Yes, its amazing how Disney is allowed to use old stories in their animated movies, yet congress seems to always extend the terms of their copyrights whenever they lobby for it.

As for this being a ripoff of Nadia, that's not 100% clear (although i do believe there is a very good chance they did). However, both camps (those who believe that disney copied nadia, and those who didn't) agree that disney ripped off an old 60s (or was it 70s?) Japanese anime series called Kimba (or something weird) when they did the Lion King.

Yea, it is getting a bit weird. Although, it's a good change if Disney would just make some good storylines!

<< Even though I did enjoy Aladin and The Lion king. >>

Oh, you mean Othello and Hamlet for little kids?

(Actually, I liked em too, but the similarities between the two and their respective shakespearian counterparts is striking)
