Dismal temps with Coolermaster Hyper48 HSF, Need Help Urgent

After installing the Coolermaster Hyper48 HSF, my CPU temps are absolutely astronomical. After much fiddling about (tightening the retention device, checking application of thermal compound, refitting HSF, etc) the BEST i have managed to achieve is getting my CPU's idle temp at 71 Celsius!!! This is clearly not good enough, yet i have followed the installation instructions to the letter and cannot figure out where i have gone wrong. Can anyone offer any suggestions?? My complete system specs are in my sig, including case cooling, if needed....

I posted this message in the CPU section before i spotted this one... I figured this might be the better section to ask this question.
