Disks for NAS

I am going to "build" backup/storage system for the house. I pretty much decided to get Synology DS213, but still in doubt about disks.
I guess I am aiming at 2x3TB in RAID1 setup.

Is there any reason I shouldn't buy WD Reds? Or, is there any significantly better choice?

Just about anything will work in a 2-bay RAID 1. If you wanna be extra safe, the Reds are the drive for you.

The Reds are sanely priced and specifically for that purpose, I'd just get those.

Back when it was full on enterprise drives vs consumer stuff the price premium made it hard to justify just for TLER purposes but with the Reds there's really no reason not to.

You could opt for the longer warrantied WD RE or Seagate Constellation lines.

i used hitachi drives in 2 of my old freeNAS boxes and never had a single drive failure. i've since upgraded to a full blown 2k8r2 server with a raid6 array (with hitachi).
