Diskless Netflix on PS3 this fall

It would be a nice convenience to have the NetFlix streaming sofware installed on the hard drive. Heck, Netflix should be able to profide a downloadable to the PS3 store so we could simply visit there and download it to our hard dives. Thats an idea!

This will be nice since the PS3 has been more consistent with the streaming quality over the Xbox which shares the same router.

I don't use instant that much because I like high quality 1080p with 7.1 HD sound, vs crap.

Call me crazy, but I watch stuff because the content is good, not because the format is good. Of course I'd prefer watch it in a better format, but I think it's stupid to choose not to watch good content because it's in an inferior format. Many TV shows were shot on video tape and will never be available in 1080p. That doesn't mean they're crap.

True, but pretty much all new content is, and most everything the past several years is. And even older stuff before that can be upconverted pretty well to 1080p on bluray players.

this isn't new news though, they said from the start they used discs because it was faster and they'd get to an installed version later. We'd all be waiting till now to even try streaming on the PS3.

The real question is will it be available to everyone, or take a page from microsoft and require the new playstation plus subscription to use?

Also, about damn time. I've had to get two replacement discs already because the PS3 stopped reading them for some reason.. they were very minimal scratches... perfect compared to the normal DVDs that I get through netflix

This is the exact same problem I had last month. PS3 wasn't reading the Netflix disc most of the time but reading other disc's fine. I had to order a replacement disc which did work but I'd rather not have to feed a disc to stream. My disc didn't appear to be scratched either... pretty clean... maybe inferior discs?
