diskeeper on SQL server and Exchange servers?

groovin

Senior member
is it ok to run diskeeper on SQL and Exchange volumes? i know they have their own utils to defrag/optimize their databases, but otherwise i didnt know if a 3rd party tool is advisable to run. Thanks

The only effective way is off-line defragmentation and database shrinking.

Running defrag on production systems with live DBs are useless because any I/O would cause them to not do anything with the file fragments.

Why are you running diskkeeper on these servers anyways? You shouldnt need to regularily do any defragmentation of them.
