Diskeeper 2008 is freezing my computer...

I've never had problems with Diskeeper 2008, but it has started freezing my laptop (Gateway P-6831FX). If I have it on automatic defrag, my computer will eventually lock up. When I try to manually restart it, it gets stuck at the Gateway boot logo...so I have to manually restart it again, and then it will work.

It's just recently started doing this...I used to run it quite often with no problems. Now I'm unable to run a scan at all without the computer locking up (especially if the computer is idle aside from Diskeeper).

Any explanation for this, or perhaps a solution?

This sounds like a hardware problem, I'd be suspicous of the drive at least initially...

Hm, I doubt it...any way to check for it? Because everything runs flawlessly without it.

Actually, I can defragment my computer with Diskeeper as long as it's not the only thing the computer is doing...it just seems like when it has full control and full priority, it locks up my computer.

Well its probably the one service that execercises your io subsystem the most, and what ever issue you have may not show up unless under heavy stress. You can try Sandra or some other benchmark and have it beat up on your disks for a bit, see if it happens there too.
