Disk To Disk In Norton Ghost

How long would it take me to clone a 40GB Fujitsu (with like 36GB+ of stuff on it) hard drive with Norton Ghost to a 120GB Maxtor 8MB Cache Drive? Thanks!

Around an hour, if not less. Put each on a separate IDE chain; it'll go faster. Just make very sure to Ghost the FULL drive onto the empty one, not the other way around. 😉

I usually see around 1500 meg/minute transfer rate from one IDE to another IDE, so around 24 minutes would be my rough estimate.

Edit: Fixed 150 to be 1500

Depends on your system, but as long as the 2 drives are on seperate ide channels it normaly goes up to around 1500-1800 mb/min for me when doing drive to drive transfers (this is between 2 WD1200JB's) it tended to go faster on older intel chipsets for me (i815 has out run any other platform I've tried it on so far) Based on the amount of data and the drives your using I'd say it would prob. take around a 1/2 hr or so to transfer the data between the 2 drives.... Hope this helps... 🙂

Why does putting it on separate IDE channels make ghosting faster?

Only 1 ide device per channel can be active at once thus to have the system copy from disk to disk w/out interleaving between the 2 drives they need to be on 2 seperate channels. Hope this helps... 🙂
