Disk space usage problem.

When I view available disk space in the hard drive properties for my C drive it says 20giga bytes are used. If I go into my hard drive and select all of its contents it shows around 15giga bytes of used space. This happened to me one other time and the only way I could fix it was to reformat the drive. I don?t want to reformat my C disk again. I have used defrag and disk cleanup and they don?t help. Anyone have some ideas? Anyone else ever had a problem like this?

Usually the pagefile is hidden as well, so you could make sure that under Folder Options->View that "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is checked, then do a select all on the HD

Be aware, that when you show the hidden files, that some of these could be system files that Windows needs, so i wouldnt go about deleting any if you dont know what they do

Yeah I have one hidden folder but it?s a virus vault. It?s way to tiny to take up 5giga bytes. Even when I select that it says I only have 5gigs used (The virus vault is only a few KB?s in size).

Sorry typing error. What I meant to say was it is displaying around 15gb of used space. Same as before plus a few kb?s for the virus vault.

If you look under system restore, if it is enabled you might be loosing some space there so therefore you could try to disable system restore and see if the space comes back
