The message I see is:

Event ID: 7
The device, \Device\Harddisk1\DR1, has a bad block.

And there is some hex data quoted.

The system is VP6, 2 CPUs, and the following drives:
IDE0 master: DVD-ROM. drive E.
IDE0 slave: Maxtor 40GB. 2 NTFS partitions, C & D.
IDE1 master: Maxtor 20GB. 2 NTFS partitions, F & J.
IDE1 slave: Maxtor 27GB. 1 NTFS partition G.
HPT0 master: Maxtor 40GB. 1 FAT32 partition H.
HPT0 slave: Maxtor 60GB. 2 NTFS partitions I & K.

The error event shows 10 times in a row, only in the middle of my night time virus scan. It never showed up any other time.

I suspect that \Device\Harddisk1\DR1 refers to IDE1 slave (starting to count from 0), but I am not sure. Does anyone know for sure what the Microsoft counting methind is here?

Thank,
