Hello, I'm trying to recover a buddies hard drive. Connecting the hard drive to a Windows XP Box via USB mounts but fails to open. The file format is read as RAW.

I just plugged it into my OS X Macbook and I can read that it is a NTFS partition. Right now I'm trying the dd command but it's locked at 200 megs right now.

Is there any software out there to recover this hard drive for Windows?

RAW typ means that the NTFS partition is corrupt, the simple way would be to attempt a repair install.

If that's the case then the disk is probably dying, see if you can find a copy of dd_rescue for OS X. It's just like dd except with better error handling.

Actually the Windows NTFS driver falls over pretty easily as can be noted by the fact that he could read the partition on his Mac but not in XP.
