If i have a HD split into two partitions and delete one of the partitions using diskmgmt.msc, will i lose any of the data on the other partition? Will the two partitions combine into one?

No and no. I'm not certain if you can delete the first partition on a non-dynamic NTFS disk, though. Maybe that's only system partitions that it applies to. I'm sure a search in Operating Systems (or on the web) would turn up more information.

'diskmgmt.msc' is also better known as the Disk Management console, usually accessed by right-clicking 'My Computer' and selecting "Manage...". You can also get to it through Control Panels.

if you delete 1 partition you will not loose the data on the other partition, they will not merge.

it makes a diff as to what the drive is used for, does it have the OS on the other partition,if not then move the data to another HD and delete both partitions and reformat the drive to have its full cap.

No and No. Unless your diskmgmt is different than most partitioning programs, it will just delete that one partition and it will be turned into blank space, which is used by nothing. You can probably then expand your other partition to encompase the whole drive.

No it does not have the OS or any programs, only data files. So it will not resize the drive and restore full capacity unless i do a full format? How do I expand the partition? Right now I have the following in NTFS:

HD1:
C:\ has OS, Apps

HD2:
D:\ partition 1 is formatted using diskmgmt.msc
E:\ partition 2 has data files i want to keep

I want to combine D and E into one partition, can i do this without Partition Magic?

the only way to expand the partition is with another software,XP will not expand an established partition to include the space left by a partition delete, move the data and reformat.
