Disk I/O Error?

I have just booted my newly built computer and have set the BIOS settings. I stick in Disk#1 of the W2k Boot Disk and it just comes up and says "Disk I/O Error" and doesn't let me do anything else. It freezes. Whats wrong?

if the floppy drive light is on continously then you've got to reverse the floppy cable to the drive!

No, the floppy drive light works fine now.
