Disk Doctor & Speed Disk (scandisk and defrag) Alternatives?

I was thinking about installing Norton Utilities, but I dislike NU because they required the installation of "Norton LiveUpdate" and other components I don't need.

Now I'm in search of alternatives for Speed Disk and Disk Doctor. The default Win98 scandisk and defrag don't cut it. I've found that Vopt is a good alternative for defrag. But what about scandisk? I've thought about SpinRite 5.0 from www.grc.com, but it doesn't work on NTFS partions.

Any recommendations on good third-party scandisk software.

um, check out zdnet. or pcworld reviews of utilities packages and junk... they usually have reviews of the things we need to maintain our computers.

i use norton utilties. i disable all of what i don't want. basically, the only things that run from the suite are the ones i choose to run, MANUALLY!!!! i disabled all the other crap.

if you use NTFS, there are better solutions for enterprise and small business. Norton utilities is not really good enough for certain things.

Unfortunately it installs the LiveUpdate but other than that just disable everything else. When I install norton 2k1, I unselected everything except Speed Disk, Disk Doctor, and Win Doctor (only useful ones IMO) and then the required files.
