disk defrag will not run without running chkdisk

How do I get checkdisk to run? I went to run on the start menu typed in chckdisk /f it trys to run but say volume is in use and asks if I want to run it when i reboot the computer. I say yes, reboot and it trys to run but doesnt show any progress. Then it says its done. After that it trys to run it again but says its canceled!!! If i turn off the computer or reboot again it says that the drive may be corrupted and I should run checkdisk and defrag still wont run. Otherwise the computer runs normally😕
