Disk corrupts files - totally puzzled

Here is my puzzle. I have 2 SATA NTFS formatted disks on my machine. 120 Gb split in 2 partitions (System and Docs) and the 250 Gb "storage" (Maxtor Diamond 10).

Every time I am copying (never mind torrenting or e-muling one) a file bigger than 50 mb on the "Storage" disk it is almost guaranteed to be corrupted. I've checked it for bad sectors - none found. Thought about conflicting apps (usual suspects: Diskeeper or Symantec AV) - no obvious indications.

Once again - I can download 1 Gb (Rar for example) file on the first disk and it will be fine, once I copy it to the big disk - the copy will be corrupted (CRC issues in rar).

ANY suggestions on what (and how) else I can check will be VERY appreciated. Myself, I ran out of the ideas.

Win XP, Athlon 2400+ upped to 3200, 1 Gb Ram

No it's not. it only has 10 Gb of freshly placed files. And I've defragmented it before last attempt.

Try running the manufs. utility on the drive, not just chkdsk.

Tried Maxtor utility. No problems, no bad sectors.

Also, I've replaced SATA cable, ran MemTest (no errors) and killed all nonessential processes with the same result: original file has no error, when I copy it it shows corruption.

Any other ideas?

PS. The only thing I've noticed is that my system HD seats on the second sata port, while the storege HD is on the first one.

Memtest (3 passes) didn't find any errors.

I've tried to copy files under Linux (to eliminate any possibility of Win XP involvement) - same result.

Does it looks like a hardware issue to you?

The only 2 things I can think of are: swap the headers for Disk 1 and 2 and... blame power supply.

Anyway, I've ordered a new HD. If that will be error free, I will shove the replacement Maxtor (Seagate) has sent me up their booty...

Try settling back on your overclock a little. I had a similar problem a with a Barton 2500+ OC'ed to 3200+ with SATA 150's on A7N8X (with the SI controller.) Big files would get fubared when copying or even when burning until I dropped back the FSB speed. I forget the exact details at this point, but give it a try.

Scaled FSB down from 200 to 160 Mhz. Same poop.
