Disk Controller Failure?

What does it mean when it says 1782 Disk Controller Failure, Push F1 to Boot F10 for Computer Setup. Does it mean the hard drive went bad or the motherboard is bad?
 
Its not my computer, it's my cousin. He has a crap Compaq Presario, forgot the model number but it has a Celeron 667MHz with the i810 onboard video card.
