Hi
I have a question. My friend just gave me his old computer but when I tried to start it I received the following message.
Boot from ATAPT cd rom :failure
Disk boot failure insert system disk and press enter.
The computer is an old Amd 900 .

If any one can help me so I can proceed to get it up and going.

Thanks

I would first make sure the hard drive is showing up in the Bios. Did he format the hard drive before he gave it to you, or leave the operating system installed? Also make sure there is no disk in the floppy drive. The error you got meant it was trying to boot from a cd, and didn't find a bootable cd. You could also open it up to make sure the cable for the hard drive didn't come loose.

to simplify:

normally it's either a BIOS thing, (the hard drive isnt selected as a boot device)
or the hard drive is either pooched, or not there at all.
