Went to use my dishwasher today and it worked fine. Came back in around lunch time and it showed PF on the display. Restarted it and started to work but was making a different noise than usual. Came back out and nothing on display. Tried to press buttons but they didn't even light up. So it has like no power now. Check the breaker and its not flipped. Turn off breaker for about 30 secs and back on but still no power to dishwasher.

Checked online and people said it could be the control board gone bad.

Any idea what it might cost for someone to repair?
Its a frigidaire aquasurge model.

Google the full model number etc, several places online that sell parts have decent advice forums, but the first thing they will want to know is the exact model number.

Try "home and garden" forum, also Google the model# and see if someone else has dealt with the same issue. Sounds like a PS or control board went bad. You can dig out a multimeter and start checking for DC voltage's or you might find a burned diode or resistor.

PF = Power Failure. Problem is it can be a result of several different things. You said there was a noise, so most likely there's something wrong with the motor. You can also check the impeller to see if anything is caught in it.

Dishwashers go out more than any other appliance. They're just designed horribly bad. Service call and repair may be only slightly cheaper than replacing it.

Typically control bds cost up to $150...if you call a service tech expect to pay double. Call repairclinic.com as they have great prices on all this stuff. Just went through this with my heat pump this week and my dishwasher last year.

We just got a new fancy digital dishwasher. Died in less than 6 months.

Our old one survived about 16 years.

Fridgidaire for the lose.

I wish ours would go out... it's a piece of crap that came with the house... I always have to prewash and scrub down everything before putting it in.

I walked out into the kitchen this morning and the dishwasher was flashing PF again and some other LEDs were lit.

Tried to run it again and didn't seem like it was doing anything. then it started to make that weird noise again. I opened it up to make sure nothing was stuck inside the washer but didn't see anything. closed it up and started it again and it made no noise at all for a few seconds then all the LEDs went out and it won't do anything again.

Called 2 local shops and 1 doesn't work on them and the other is 85$ for a service call and $85/hr after that. Called a 3rd shop a bit farther out and they don't service where I live, but they said it could be a motor or electrical issue and they say it might be cheaper just to replace it.

Are these things easy to install yourself or best to have someone do it? I guess depending on where I buy they would probably install it.

Sounds like it is best to buy a new one. I have bought several dishwashers in my time and the last one I bought is a Bosch. Love it. I will have Bosch dishwasher from now on.

They are easy to remove and install yourself, there are many videos on youtube that show you how. However if you have to ask the question it is probably best to have someone do it for you. They will generally haul away the old one also.

A common issue in these is that there's nothing wrong with the dishwasher. Occasionally, they will get something jammed in the motor/pump that causes the motor not to turn. This flips a safety mechanism.

If you take the bottom rack out, there are usually a few star wrench screws down there holding the filters and screens together. You can go in and clean everything out.... (a lot of toothpicks and food matter sneak through commonly)

This happened to my dishwasher about 3 months ago. I then went to a repair site and found the reset procedure on my unit. Basically, the computer has a accepts a bunch of codes by pressing buttons in a certain pattern on these things. Doing whatever the reset code is will clear the error and it may fire right up. Before replacing the unit, start with the code and see what possible causes are (assuming there are more than one). If it is ultimately suggesting the board is fried, then you should see if there's a hard reset process before you give up on it...

what repair site?

Took the racks out and found spoon in the bottom but didnt seem like it was causing a problem. Didnt see anything else. Dont use toothpicks or things with bones so nothing like that in there. The mesh grate on the bottom is very fine. Turned odd breaker for several minutes and turned back on and dishwasher showed pf again. Tried to start it up and it did t seem like it was doing anything and after a few minutes it lost power again. I think im just going to replace it eventhough i really dont want to spend the money.

thanks for the repair tips. I will try them before calling the damn repair dude.
Technically its under warranty but these days nobody likes honoring the warranty.
