We are doing a little kitchen remodel and before our new counter top gets installed I'd like to replace our aging dishwasher. I'm looking to spend in the neighborhood of $350.

We run the dishwasher probably 5 times a week so dependability is pretty key.
One complicating factor is that the color has to be Bisque, not white.

I've been told to stay away from the frigidaire models.

Right now I'm looking at whirlpool, what other brands would anybody recommend?

Whirlpool or Kenmore. Some of the Kenmore models may be built by various companies, so you gotta ask questions and pay attention...We have a Kenmore that is built by Kitchen Aid...VERY good machine, dependable, quiet, does a GREAT job. I haven't shopped for them in several years, but I doubt you're gonna get a GREAT model for the $350 you want to spend...

Do your research though. I've found that I can always beat Sears' prices at the local appliance stores. Sears' price is what's posted...no dickering, while the local stores will often dicker with you, throw in free delivery and installation, extended warranties, etc. to get the sale...

My parents have a Bosch, it is by far the nicest dishwasher they have owned. They went through a few different brands over the course of 10 years and I think they've finally settled. The Bosch does an excellent job cleaning, you rarely ever have to wash the dishes before throwing them in. Not to mention it's super quiet.

I think you'd be hardpressed to find one in that price range. Though, Bosch does make an amazing dishwasher.

I did look at those when I was in the store, they are very nice. Unfortunately I'm actually getting the dishwasher as a birthday gift from my mother (Where do I turn in my man card??) that's the budget I've been given and all my extra money is going into the granite counter tops.

Bosch is good, but Bosch doesnt use heater coil to dry your dishes (as most euro brands, thats why they are more energy efficient) , it uses cool condensation method, so sometimes your plastic ware might come out wet. Also, you have to clean the filter every so often. Each brand has it pros and cons, you need to do your research, but at your $350 price range, just pick the one looks the best to you.

thats weird, looks like Bosch don't come in off white or maybe it is a special order color, ther kenmore elite #16304 does come in bisque and supposingly made by Bosch for Kenmore, but it's $749, with the sears card 15% off, you are still looking at $600+. good luck!

The top-rated models by Consumer Reports in July 2007 were Kenmore 1373 and 1374 models, but you're probably going to have issues with price range - they listed those as $580 and $650. You can get the Kenmore 1359 in bisque for about $300. It didn't score nearly as well, but that's pretty much a limitation of this price bracket.
