Edwards has indicated that he will keep his tax returns private, and while Romney is still considering his options, he has never released his returns in previous runs for office.

Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., aren't saying whether they will or not, but neither has released income tax forms filed this year. </a>

and people will vote for these people because of their openess and honestly... yeah, whatever.

Sorry, its the game, either play it or don't run. If they cannot be honest how they got their millions, and most if not all candidates are millionaires, then don't sit there and beat upon others who earned it the same way.

Two Americas, theirs and ours, too bad they don't care about ours except on election day.

Then why support them???

I believe I saw Romney's info this weekend.

And I personally would rather see a rich American in office than a middle class or poor one. The rich have much more understanding of the business world, balancing books, etc.

First of all, while I believe they ALL should be required BY LAW to release such information, they are NOT. Unless/until that is changed, (don't hold your breath), there will always be a few who don't/won't release their personal info.

To a point I agree with this, but also, the rich are more likely to have powerful friends who will want/expect/receive special favors, and usually get them. THAT I have a problem with.
Maybe a middle-class business man WOULD be better for the job, because while he has more to learn, he might be more honest, and bestow fewer favors. He MIGHT also have a better understanding of how government spending and programs affect the working class, instead of only how they affect his rich friends.

I completely see your points...and they are pretty fair. My only reason for wanting someone succesful and wealthy in office is that (and dont rail me for this or derail the thread) since the wealthy are responsible for most of the business and income in this country, they have an idea of how it all works. The average American or middle class business man has no clue how to balance or manage a multi-million or even billion dollar budget, much less their own 40k/year income. The rich do-it's their livelyhood.

Like Bush for instance? He couldn't balance his way out of a paper bag.....

That's not necessarily a bad thing. Since they are used to pinching their own pennies, maybe they would spare my tax dollars. Besides, it's really congress' job to set the budget.

That's a bit shallow. It depends on how ethical they were in how they got it. A rich crook is still a crook, and a rich asshole is still an asshole, and rich idiots may be lucky enough to hold onto what they have, even if that means paying others to mind their money for them. 😛

Uh, ommm.... The rich usually don't know how to do it either... You think bush is pulling all the strings? No... He has his "top elite" you know the ones that graduated from pat robertsons law school... Doing all the balancing for him... I don't really think you have a clue of the ultra rich. They have accountants doing all the paper work. Even the small companies have accountants doing the paperwork. Yeah they may oversee some of the numbers but mostly 80-90% is done by them....

You should have mentioned that Obama released his in your original post...but then again maybe you didn't read past page 1 of the Article you posted.

"Yet as the 2008 election draws near, the only top-tier candidate who has committed to releasing his 1040 forms is Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., who already made public the return he filed this year."

Barely more relevant than getting annoyed that they've not released all their health records. Afterall, we don't want somebody getting heart attacks/strokes while in office, right? Er...

That contradicts your earlier post.
So if it's the congress responsibility to balance the budget, why would it matter whether a rich person in office can balance books as you claim?

Wierd huh?

BTW, I agree with you...Lets have rich people like Kobe Bryant, Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears running for office over Obama, Hagel, and Richardson since they have much more understanding of the business world, balancing books, etc.

I kind of understand what you are trying to say, however rich people have been going into office and running this country for hundreds of years and yet they cant balance a budget to save their life 😉

America did perfectly fine, in fact a ton better before the advent of this mega corporation mania that now plagues the U.S. like a cancer.

You can have your rich America hater and all of them and leave this Country and form your own Country with a Corporate Constitution you and your kind so love.

Based on your criteria of being a rich business person, she's the most guilty of them all.

PS, you're the one who voted for your hero Bush, I didn't 😉

The middle-class guy will have to whore himself out even more to corporations and special interests to get the funding to go up against the rich guy in a campaign.

I was only concerned with those who did not. These are the leading candidates in their respective parties, whereas Obama polls well he still have to get past he DNC convention and that I doubt he can. (IOW the race was decided before it started, best he can hope for is VP - but there are just as many Democrats as Republicans who could never vote for a black person on any ticket)

I see. She's rich.

Actually a good idea would be to limit anyone in office to $250,000 or less very much like the $250K Tax ceiling.

Some may call it "Rich" discrimination but I call it preservation of America.

It's simple.

In order to truly represent the "people" you would have to shed and not have access to mass fortune while you run and hold public office.

After you leave office you may rejoin with your massive fortune.

This would have to be highly guarded and regulated as well to make sure there is no collusion.

I did not re-vote for the criminal in Chief Bush the second time unlike many in here.

To be fair, rich people have been running this country for as long as we've been a country, the difference is now the richer are amassing far more wealth than they did 200+ years ago even taking inflation into account. The point is, rich presidents are nothing new.

This is true. It is what I said about it being taken to whole new levels since 2001.
