DishNetwork DVR vs DirectTV DVR

Hey,
I have regular TIVO in my room and the dishnetwork PVR in my living room.. I really do prefer TIVO... It tapes a show whenever it's on and not just by time (saw you tell the dishnetwork PVR to tape simpsons @7.. it'll tape the simpson at 7 one, once a week, or every day... it WON'T tape the simpsons if it comes on at say 10 pm)... direcTivo is also dual tuner - watch one show, tape another.. kinda snazzy if you ask me.. BUT i prefer dishnetwork to directV (i had both).. it's a tough call..

why u perfer dishnetwork over DirecTV?
For the better package Total choice plus with local, direcTV is cheaper and have more channels..

The main thing i want DishNetwork is because of thier DVR function..but it seem it is having a lot of problems right now...

for those who has DishNetwork DVR or Tivo, which has the commerical skip ability ?

My DirectV would always go out on me when it rained.. ALWAYS.. I had a tech come down to fix it but it still gave me the same problems (I thought it was a misaligned dish).. Dishnetwork is rock solid and it IS cheaper.. call them to compare, dish is cheaper than direct..

tivo has a hack to let you skip commercials.. I'm not sure if dishPVR has tthat feature.. I'll ask my dad..

Hmm. A hack for commercial skip eh? Interesting.......

<-- Bought DirecTIVO 2 weeks ago and loves it!

While you're playing a recorded show, press <select><play><select><3><0><select>.

Enjoy. 🙂

You need to do this every time the unit is rebooted (but not every time it's taken out of stand-by).

EDIT: freedomsbeat212 beat me to it. And that page shows which button to press to skip ( ->| ), which I forgot to mention. Also, you'll only hear the "blong-blong-blong" sound if you haven't turned off the Tivo sound effects in your preferences.

niceee.. but why go thru all those trouble when dishnetwork dvr 522 has a 30sec skip function ;]

Because Tivo is so much better than the rest. Is six buttons in an easily memorized sequence really too much trouble? I mastered it in no time. (The biggest trouble occurs rarely, when I forget to re-enter the sequence after I've unplugged the unit for some reason, and I press ->| and accidentally skip to the end of the program instead of 30 seconds ahead.)
