I'm unable to get a DirecTV dish because of how my apartment points, but I see all these homes with a dish pointing in a completely different direction, and pointing much father down. I'm assuming those are DISH Network dishes? If so, I'm thinking of getting a DISH Network dish. But, i want to confirm where these things are supposed to point. So if I'm in Northern California, I would need a clear view of which direction of sky? (I know with directv it's SW)

Yea, I found that, but I'm not sure it helps. I downloaded the app, and depending on which satellite you select, the Azimuth changes completely. I have no clue what satellite to select. If I select DISH 500, it always stays the same, but I'm not sure that's what I would get. Plus, I have no clue how to correspond Azimuth to a location. I'm just looking for something simple like "Northwest". Mee = teh stoopid

DISH 500 is the 110/119 which has pretty much all of their programming. I believe the other two are 61.5 and 148 but they are for international programming or HD programming.

Check http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb for more info. Look in the Sat. TV forum. Or try http://www.hometheaterspot.com

And, as far as location, well, zip code should be pretty much right on it. I believe they take topographical issues into play.
