dish network receivers - require ethernet broadband?

Just wondering this one - I'm getting a dishnetwork install done this week (their multiroom dvr, hd) and wonder if I need to run ethernet to that tv. I don't really want to, since my PS3 works great with wifi and running ethernet will be a pain since my router's a floor up..

My directTV receiver required ethernet for payper view and on demand, is it the same for dish?

Thanks!

I don't thihnk you "need" them but they charge you an extra $5/month if you don't hook them.

basically...plus they have sling now, so it's definitely worthwhile....I can manage everything on my DVR anywhere around the world, via the internet!

Thanks! So no content will actually be delivered through the ethernet (i.e. directv's on demand will not work without ethernet)?

NO its nto a requirement. you can still get PPV's without it (just need to call in) but yes it cost $5 a box

I did not realize that... but then I have never ordered PPV, and will likely never do so :p

How does that work? I'm intrigued.

sweet, it's out of beta. You can just sign up now!

If you have an iphone you can stream from your dish box via sling, as long as you have internet connection (I think it works on WIFI only right now).

Look on your bill, the $5 fee is probably on it.

You can usually order online as well instead of ordering with your remote (requires a phone line) or ordering by phone (you get charged by DirecTV).

I was out of contract, and I had the old crappy SD ones...I finaly talked them into upgrading me to HD bronze, and ViP222 receiver for a $25 one time fee...They even gave me HD for free for the year.

This is why I love dish!

nope, you sign up, go through a quick few step process to connect/tie the system with your DVR and you are good...can manage your Dish from anywhere. You can delete shows/movies that on the HD, you can schedule/search for shows to start recording, it's nice.

Ha - I may get a 2nd dish. Ethics aside, I remember hacking directv back in the day and know my wife would stab me if tv was more complicated than turning it on. But a 2nd dish as a hobby couldn't hurt.
