Im surprised this hasn't been covered here since Dish claims 7 million subscribers and at least a few of those subscribers must be here on Anandtech? The Dish Network site(s) have been down for days. And Dish controls SlingTV so Sling has been affected too. I know Sling has been affected because I had missing channel issues and Sling cs was unable to address the issue because of lack of system access.

So, someone has hacked Dish AND they want money. And it's kinds of scary when these companies get so big and own and control other companies and control other services, then when one goes down they all go down. And Dish doesn't even know how bad the hack was. Or if customer data was stolen or to what extent.
To me, it seems like cyber attacks targeting American companies will be on the rise especially since the hackers usually originate from Russia and China, and in case you haven't noticed American relations with Russia and China haven't been going so well lately. We have this war thing going on with Russia, and China is about to invade Taiwan which America doesn't like or will allow to happen. And so, they resort to hacking our businesses and corporations.

I don't know about everyone else, but I have noticed things have become a little weird lately. If you have an issue with or about anything and try to call and to get help, good luck with that. Weird things happening especially with anything technology and technology based companies. It's like 10 year olds have taken over everything. And what bothers me, with all the banks and financial institutions owning each another, if one of them were hacked and go down then the entire financial system could go down. Or your electricity could go down state wide and nation wide, then how are you going to charge your electric car? Or pump gas into your gas guzzler?

I hope congress can handle this and maybe just for once pass a few cyber laws that actually protect America instead of enabling Russia. And China. And Iran. And North Korea. And... the kid living in mom and dads basement. You'd hope.

Dish works just fine for me. They were having problems when I tried to call them yesterday though. Couldn't get through.

I currently spend quite a bit of time watching content, but none of it is from a traditional bundled TV channel service, streaming or otherwise. Family does have a sub to Youtube TV, but if regular channels or their providers ceased to exist I wouldn't notice.

Would have been funny if the hackers threatened to release a hack for their cards like the early 2000's. Free TV all over again.
