We get our TV as free over the air ATSC from an antenna. Until fairly recently, we were using a 19" CRT tube TV to watch, with a TR-40 CRA set top box used to receive the free over the air signal.
There are 2 things I LOVE about this tuner box:
1) it has a fantastic antenna strength meter that helps a whole lot when trying to turn your antenna to pull in distant signals
&
2) it has a wonderful Dish Network program guide built in. I've never found an HDTV or other set top box that has as nice of a program guide. This thing lets you see what is on all of the channels easily and quickly for the next 24 hours.
We bought a 50" HDTV about 6 months ago, and while I like the size and clarity, it has no program guide at all built in. I keep wishing I still had the old TR-40 CRA set up so that I could quickly see what is on the channels, and what is coming up.
It's kind of like buying a new car, but then finding out that you can only see out of a tiny place down low on the front windshield! You can't see what is coming up ahead, and you can't see what is off to the side. ("other channels")
I've put up with it for a while, but I'm just too spoiled by the Dish Network over the air program guide to be satisfied with this thing any longer.
The trouble is, I'm not sure exactly what the program guide used by the TR-40 CRA is called, or what to look for in a TV to make sure that I can get something similar built into my next set.
Can anyone help me out with this? I figured I would be happy with a basic 1080p TV set, but I'm just missing the program guide too much!
