So what do I do when my Dish Hopper says that my TV is not HDCP compliant? It has been hooked to this same TV for over 2 yrs and it is just now doing this. Is this a software bug in the Hopper or is my TV actually not HDCP? I thought that all HDMI TV's were HDCP from the start and that was built into to HDMI from the start?

No I have not contacted DISH yet because they never admit they have a software issue and their tech folks are pretty dumb like all tech support. They read from a script and have little or now real knowledge.

It is a Hannspree model ST42DMSB and it is about 4 yrs old. Not exactly a high end TV but it has been working fine for years.

It's a problem that does happen with Dish's units that have HDMI output (and the same probably happens with DirecTV's as well) and is typically easy to fix. Somewhere along the chain the HDCP handshake has gotten fubarred so you're going to want to reset the entire chain. Power off your TV and any devices that handle the HDMI signal that the Hopper is sending (AVRs, etc) and unplug the Hopper. The reason you have to unplug the Hoppper is that even when "off" it's still in a standby state and doesn't start a new HDCP handshake until it's had its power removed completely. If that doesn't work you'll want to try using different HDMI inputs on the TV and see if they work instead. And if that doesn't work then try different HDMI cables to see if the cable has somehow developed a defect. Sounds silly I know but I have heard of it happening to some folks on rare occasion. If the last bit doesn't work then there's something wrong with the Hopper unit and at that point you'll need to contact Dish to setup for a replacement.
