An update:
Completely removed FF from my computer. Installed Chrome and started using it.
Then:
Decided to try Opera again yesterday just for the hell of it. It's much better than I remember and is working perfect. Fast boot, quick page loads and smooth scrolling.
I still have Chrome but am using Opera exclusively now.
I'll let you know how it goes but I may be becoming an Opera convert.

ff runs fine on several setups here..with loads of plugins.
must be your choice of plugins.

i don't get the whole i'll install this instead of that.
i have all 4 main browsers installed as options
but i always come back to firefox as main

Well the browser they put in the android market is called Opera Mini, not mobile. I couldn't figure out how to zoom in/out and I just like the way the included browser feels better.

I never liked Opera on the desktop either. In Linux mainly because it used the QT toolkit which I find ugly compared to GTK. And on top of that I just want a browser, I dont want a fucking IRC, email bittorrent client.

Yes, like I said - Opera Mobile for Android isnt released yet. They have put up Opera Mini as a consolation for now. Zoom in/out is by double-tapping. The default Android browser is full featured and likely better than Opera Mini.

You dont need to use the built-in IRC, torrent and email clients if you dont want them. The existence of these features dont distract you from normal browsing in any manner. Nor does it affect the speed.

Apart from the "ugliness", did you find anything wrong with the browser? Or did you not look deeper because of the interface? I guess they are using QT to provide a consistent experience across all platforms. Im not sure if this can be fixed by a skin.

Well that was pretty stupid on their part because I'm sure people are going to get confused like I did and never look at Opera Mobile if they ever do release it for Android.

But they're there, I don't want them and I can't remove them. A browser should just be a browser. I can kind of concede the BitTorrent client since most people get their torrents from some website, but the rest is just stupid bloat for no good reason and just adds anothers vector of attack.

QT does look a lot better these days and there are themes to make the widgets look like the current GTK theme, but that won't help any of the dialogs so it still doesn't look like everything else on my desktop. And I consider the fact that it's non-free a problem.
