I'm all for an "example" being made of the main offenders.
I'm not worried about you at all.
I was speaking about your behavior...
I've been specifically paying attention to new threads in here over the last day or so. And based on what I've seen, I stand by my assertion that going back to a "no insults" rule would, if not solve all of the problems here, at least solve some of them.
I noticed a couple of threads where the negative behavior began with insults, not with "trolling" or any of the other non-insult behaviors. In one case it was directed at someone who chose deliberately to ignore it, otherwise the thread would have spiraled out of control. In most cases it is not ignored and the results are predictable.
Agreed. Restoration of the no insults rule would solve most of the problems.
You may feel that it would solve "most" of the problems, but in that you are not agreeing with me. I said it would solve "some" of the problems.
The no-insults rule needs to be reinstated, but it can only be done fairly if the standard rules against flamebaiting and thread derailing are also enforced. A holistic approach is required.
would, if not solve all of the problems here, at least solve some of them.
What I meant was that even though it would NOT solve all of the problems -- a view I've made clear many times in the past -- it would solve some of them, and therefore was worth consideration. The comment was made in opposition to those who, I believe, feel that the no insult rule would not help at all because of the other problems.
What do you think would make a second attempt more successful?
Implementing it as part of a systems approach that includes dealing with all of the negative behaviors, rather than focusing only on insults.
It was very successful last time it was done, but it took the moderators a lot of time to enforce it and many of the usual suspects complained about it.
You selectively edit.
I remove the irrelevant or otherwise useless info and respond to the important items.
Your judgement on all those matters is lacking.
No, it is not, but thank you for your concern.
It's an assessment based on your frequently provided evidence.
You're certainly welcome. I would only prefer you take that feedback into some consideration and modify your behavior, but alas, you don't think you're in the wrong.
I listen to all feedback. I throw away the bad feedback, like yours, and keep the good feedback, like much of what IDC told me.
I certainly like the idea of enforcing all of the rules instead of focusing solely on insults, or even mostly on insults. I suspect that brings us back to a lack of moderator resources, unfortunately.Implementing it as part of a systems approach that includes dealing with all of the negative behaviors, rather than focusing only on insults.
To what end? What kind of contributor to the boards do you wish to be?
The kind who does not listen to bad feedback.
Well, you have to listen to it to deem it as bad, no?
My bad, I meant to say adopt. I do not adopt bad feedback.
