Bought a Moto Droid about 1 year ago, day after its launch. This was before they began their $350 ETFs. Signed a new 2yr contract at the time. My VZW account shows 7 months remaining before I'm eligible for a subsidized phone upgrade.

When can I cancel my contract without penalty?

You still can't cancel until 2 full years, but they will let you renew a few month early and get a new phone (usually around 22 months or so).

I know they had an early upgrade promo for a lot of people I got a promo notice saying I could upgrade early back in July. I think it had to do with Droid X. But my contract still goes till 2011.

I know I should have been more clear, they still will make you fulfill your current contract regardless of when you can upgrade. You might check around though and see if Verizon has recently made any material changes to their contract terms. I got out a sprint a few years back because of some taxes and fees they added on after the fact which violated my current contract.

Shot Verizon an email shortly after my previous post this morning. Voiced my concerns about their current Android line up and inquired about my contract terms.

I didn't expect anything more than a token email response some time later. Got a phone call a few minutes ago from them. They offered me an early upgrade and inquired why I was thinking of leaving and why I found their current line up less than compelling. I flat out stated that I hated Moto Blur, TouchWiz, Bing, and that I much preferred the look of stock Android.

The rep said 'Hmmm, things are going to get crazy around Thanksgiving.' He asked for my details on why I didn't dislike the Fascinate, and I politely told him that I didn't like Bing and how the Fascinate locks you to it. He said there might be something I'm going to be interested in this Thanksgiving. I voiced concerns again about Moto Blur and Touchwiz.

He stated that, unfortunately, they didn't have any vanilla Android phones to offer me yet. But, to hold off until Thanksgiving. Emphasis on the 'Yet'.

Curiosity. There's always something better just around the corner, and I honestly didn't think Verizon Wireless would launch another stock Android device.

I'm seriously conflicted about what to do with my phone. I don't have a smart phone, but I want one. I like the iPhone, but I'm not going to get one in January if it has the same guts as the one from this summer. Stupid to buy a 6+ month old phone when you're locked into it for at least 18 months right now. Dunno what to do. And then Verizon moving away from the unlimited data plans (which is fucking stupid as hell) just makes it more complicated.

Good god man, if you're a nerd enough care at all about touchwiz or motoblur, root the damn phone and get rid of it. It took me all of 5 minutes to do so.

You sir, are a ruh-tard. 2 year contracts enable many people to get phones at huge discounts...monthly rates are the same regardless of whether they are month to month or on contract. And even with a higher ETF you still essentially break even at the very least if you have to break contract early.

Fail. :p Even rooted, you cannot remove Moto Blur. If you do, the D2 and DX are rendered into bricks. You can cover them with themes or alternative launchers, but the Blur crap is still there, always running. Touchwiz, little different, but the stock AOSP builds aren't out yest. And the GPS is still broken, plus the whole Bing fail with the Fascinate.

APeX rom has completely removed blur from the phone. No bricking. The only "blur" thing, if you could call it that, is the camera/video recording.

Nice piece of work on their part. Only been following the D2 and DX with half an eye for a while though, I'll admit that.

Silly rabbits, you are fishes and fools, buy your own equipment and don't get stuck with a 2 year contract.

But every time, your wireless provider offers you a new upgrade for free free free, fools can't wait to sign up for another two year contract. And all that fine fine print in the contract is not there to protect you, its there to make you into their cash cow.

How am i retard lol, you sign a contract for 2 years, you pay for service for two years, the phone could matter less.
