discrete sound card, worth the money?

I have an nforce2 ultra non-sound storm mobo and a very old creative live value.

question is, is it worth shelling out say $70 for a audigy 2 value? What tangible benefit does a new sound card offer for occasional music listening, rare movie watching, and sporadic game playing especially given I have a 2.1 speaker system?
 
no. not with a 2.1 speaker set for what you do with it. I would stay with live value soundcard. save the $70 for next year's nf4 mobo upgrade 🙂
 
Yep $70's a little steep...go with something like this or even a Turtle Beach as it'll sound better and have less stress on the CPU...I don't think the Live Value would be that hateful either 😉
