Discovery, coffee creamer is NOT a milk substitute when cooking

We were running low on milk, and my roomies were making chili-cheese hamburger helper. We needed 2 cups of milk, we were low by about 1/3 of a cup. So what happens? Some of our HAZLENUT coffee creamer gets used to top it off. I can't describe to you the utter funk this stuff had while cooking, and tasted quite awkward. I felt a wee bit sick after a few bites as it was just not working.

We prioritized having the proper 'creaminess' in the stuff over how it might affect the flavor. It also used 1 cup of water, so we didn't think less than 1/3 of a cup of creamer would really change so much when 3 cups of liquid was used. Ah well, live and learn.

we... weren't exactly in the best of mindsets at the time. We wanted food, and wanted in RIGHT THEN

We weren't baking, just pan cooking. BUT that reminds me we need to get some fucking BROWNIE MIX when we hit up the store later. We'll get all the necessary stuff too so we don't have to throw in any makeshift ingredients.

Also, just FYI, there was discussion on using whipped cream in liu of the milk but we landed on creamer.

You should prioritize common sense, regardless of how much you drink.

With hamburger helper, I would have substituted water for the remaining amount of milk, and compinsated with a little extra butter.

this brings up a question:

what do lactose intolerant people use to substitute for milk when cooking?

This.

Hazelnut coffee creamer? Ugh, shit stanks. Good thing you didn't fuck up Hamburger Helper Cheesy Hashbrowns, that would be punishable by death.

They aren't quick enough in our area for what we needed. Hamburger helper = 10min, order pizza = 30-40 min
