Is there a reason why Discover isn't as "popular" as Visa and Mastercard?

Also, what are your opinions on Discover?

Thanks. :)

Some stores, such as Rich's, do not take Discover. I'm not sure of the specifics, but it's basically a grudge match - apparently Discover was or is owned by a competitor department store (sears?) or something. I see it as a reason to not shop at those stores rather than not use my Discover card, however.

Yeah, I don't think Discover is taken at as many places as Visa/Mastercard, or at least it didn't used to be. Also, I think people look at Discover as a "lower class" card.

I used to be a discover fan but the Citi platinum dividends card is better in every way.

maybe they take a higher percentage from credit card transactions compared to Visa/Mastercard. i know Amex isn't as widely accepted because of the higher overhead costs compared to Visa/Mastercard.

i think Sam's Club only takes Discover credit cards and CostCo only takes Amex. there aren't too many Amex/Discover exclusive places. even with Visa/Mastercard, i have yet to see a store take preference over one brand and not include the other.

i don't think of Discover as a lower class card. i just think of it as an unpopular card. Diner's Club isn't as widely accepted as Visa/Mastercard/Amex/Discover but that doesn't make it lower class. in fact, it's probably higher class because of the associated costs to the card holder.

I dunno.

I used to own a retail store which took discover. No one ever handed me one.
