Discount LG Lcds

Hey all. I can get a friend's discount on LG lcds (10% off wholesale price) and was wondering if any LGs (at that price) would make it worth it to replace my new 17" Cornea monitor. Specifically, I was looking at the LG L1800P. It's bright and has good contrast, 250/cdm and 350:1, but the response time is crap (50ms). Other than the size and DVI, the Cornea actually has equal or better stats. LCD comparison

Any thoughts?

I forgot to mention that I'm planning to use this monitor mostly for web surfing, some heavy duty photoshop (optical spyder calibration), and some gaming (not too much high FPS stuff, tho).

I would stay far away from a lcd with a 50ms response time. Look at the 1810B, that's 30ms, and I even think that this is the one Dell calls a 1800FP. Rumor says that the Dell 1800FP is a rebadged LG, the rumor also says that is indeed a 25ms screen.

My suggestion is: If you can't return it, then check it out in a shop before buying.

Now that makes my decision a lot harder! The reviews of the 1800FPs have been almost all outstanding : bright, sharp, 25-30ms response time, little ghosting. If the panels are the same on the Dell and the LG, should the performance be the same? Even if Dell's might have been assembled by BenQ?

Yes, you are correct. IF the panels are the same, performance should be the same.

The safest bet would be to find a shop that has the LG and then take it for a spin. Or find a Dell kiosk and look at the 1800FP. LG does have a 17" 16/20ms screen also.

Thanks JZilla.

Searching other threads, somebody mentioned that their disassembled 1800FP had an LG panel. good news for me.

I still haven't been able to find an LG site that has good technical info. Does anybody know of one that has details such as response time and models? LG's websites are often contradictory and/or incomplete (what do you expect from chaebols? 🙂

Thanks! I was thinking of this one or the 20" model (we'll see how much that discount really comes out to 🙂
