Disconnects, how to tell if it is router or ISP

Hello, Recently I have been having connection issues while online. But I cannot determine if it is my network, or my ISP!

I have a Linksys BEFSX41 router, and use Verizon DSL. While playing a game my entire network will go down for about 30 seconds, then come back on, I have yet to find a reason for this yet. It seems to occur almost randomly. Any help or input would be GREATLY appreciated as I am not very well educated in terms of networking.

As a last note, this has happened recently, and I have never experienced this before.

During the 30 seconds look at the conncetion light of the DSL Modem.

If it Blinks, or Off call Verizon.

Or conncet a single computer to the Modem load the PPPOE software and try withouy the Router.

How long do your downtimes last? I've started getting the same basic symptoms (sporadic connectivity, etc.) - only my router is wireless. I was able todetermine that my router (or the "wireless" part) was bad by swapping wireless cards (neither my PCI card nor USB adapter gave any noticeable difference). If it "only recently" started, I tend to lean towards your network hardware starting to conk out - how old is it?

It does sound like a router problem, does rebooting the thing help? Are you using other network programs while playing games?

I just run Teamspeak 2 when gaming, but i've done that for a long time, I'm just trying to figure out why this has happened so suddenly.

Very short, by the time I am booted from my game, and get back into windows, I can get back online within 10-20 seconds.

Many (if not all) DSL modems keep error logs. Find out how to access your error log and look for uncorrectable errors and reconnects to your ISP. You should be able to correlate the time of the disconnects/reconnects to when you are having DSL problems. A really good DSL connection will have virtually no uncorrectable errors and will maintain the connection.
