Disconnecting Sunon "Quiet" 120mm fan...too noisy!

Sick of fan noise! I mean really extra cooling is great but having a constant snow-blower next to you is highly annoying. So after 4 months with my OCed P3-650@866 I'm dropping my 120mm intake entirely. Just going with an 80mm (another "quiet" Sunon). Case temp shot up 7 clicks celsius but noise is tolerable now. 😛

Instead of ditching the 120 try using it at 7v. To do this connect the positive to +12 and the negative to -5. That should quiet things down a bit. Another option is to use a better quality 120, like a Panaflow. The "L1A" model does 68cfm @ 30dba, very quiet.

The new 120mm I tried has these specs:

- 0.20 amps
- 2.4 watts
- 2400 RPM
- 69 CFM
- 35.5 dba

The noise output is about the same as the old Evercool fan which sucked twice the power.

I'm done spending $$$ on this little project, though I may try your suggestion, Erik. For my next box I'm definitely thinking about a resistor-controlled central fan hub.

I'm using the Sunon "Quiet" 80mm from 2cooltek... it's okay. Although there is still some discernible noise, it is overshadowed by the noise from the crappy fan on my Asus 6800.
