LOL, never knew about this, in 1979 the White Sox, (22 games out of 1st place) managers came up with a marketing gimmick to sell tickets,
anyone who came to the double-header with a Disco record would get in for $.99. The records would then be placed in a large plywood box and be blown up
between games. The explosion was loud and records were sent airborne, a crowd of about 10,000 then stormed the field including a large bonfire in
center field of records and various other items they could toss in there. The umpires declared the field unplayable and the Sox had to forfeit the 2nd half of
the double-header.

A ticket to the White Sox was worth about .25 cents. The people paid the extra .74¢ just to get in on the mayhem.

I remember when this happened.

Get off my Lawn!!!!!!!

(Insert old man smiley here)
LOL, just read the Wiki about this,
"Tigers designated hitter Rusty Staub remembered that the records would slice through the air, and land sticking out of the ground. He urged teammates to wear batting helmets when playing their positions, "It wasn't just one, it was many. Oh, God almighty, I've never seen anything so dangerous in my life."[27] Attendees also threw firecrackers, empty liquor bottles, and lighters onto the field. The game was stopped several times because of the rain of foreign objects"

This reminds me a bit of another fine idea that was admittedly unofficial but still... :D

John Rocker battery day

And I was at several concerts where spontaneous chanting of "disco sucks" broke out and spread to the entire crowd... fortunately nobody was throwing anything sharp!
